CARACAS .- The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) concluded its meeting yesterday claiming half a year to a number of governments on the continent, including the Dominican Republic, eliminating the grant policy of using government advertising as a reward and punishment means complacent the media that the government considered critical.

The resolution also cites the Dominican Republic, the governments of Guyana, Argentina, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Mexico. Another resolution adopted yesterday in the final assembly in which they examined the situation country by country, IAPA noted as a positive fact that the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic has reiterated the sentence of 30 years JoaquĆ­n Antonio Pou Castro and share for the murder of journalist Orlando Martinez, a fact that occurred 32 years after the crime. in its conclusions of the meeting referred to the persecution of journalists in Venezuela, even imprisonment in violation of court rules and threats to close media, as is the case GlobovisiĆ³n.

The SIP document highlights the dissenting opinion of one of the judges, Dr. Francisco Ortega, who opposed the sentence as violating legal principles.

The SIP also welcomed the proposals from the government pressure on journalists which unveiled the Union College and the Dominicans.

In the process of drafting the resolution on the situation of the Dominican press participated in the discussions journalists Manuel Quiroz, vice president of the Press Freedom Committee and director of Morning The Caribbean, Antonio Gil, director of Listin Diario, and Rafael Molina Morillo, director of The Day The SIP session during three days at the Hotel Palace, from Friday.

One of the resolutions of the IAPA condemns U.S. authorities to keep a lid on the information concerning prisoners at Guantanamo, who are accused of terrorism.

announced that next month the SIP in the Dominican Republic will host a debate between security forces and journalists on transparency and collaboration.

the evening of Saturday groups participating in the conference on "media terrorism", convened by the government of Venezuela to oppose the assembly of the SIP, were presented at the Plaza Miranda, in front of the hotel Palace.

About 150 people distributed leaflets criticizing the members of the SIP to those identified as terrorist media and demonic.
